Injectors & Holding Structures

There are two basic parts to a windshield repair tool, the injector and the holding structure.

  • The injector vacuums out the air, creates a vacuum within the break and injects the windshield repair resin.  Threaded piston-cylinder injectors are the most popular and easiest to use because of their basic simplicity.
  • The holding structure does just that, holds the injector level over the impact point. The holding structure, sometimes called a bridge, keeps the  tool on a stationary place while the repair is being performed.

The suction cups, an often overlooked part of a glass repair kit, hold the structure to the glass and this is where the pressure comes from. The pressure that injects the resin comes from the opposing force on the suction cup. If a suction cup is too stiff and or large it will have too much pressure and can cause the break to spread or push the laminate and ruin the cosmetics of the repair.

A holding structure for a windshield crack repair does all of the above but must also slide smoothly along the crack.

Crack Openers are placed on the inside of the windshield in order to pry open the crack and inject the windshield repair resin from the surface.
